Press Corporation Plc Engages Sustain Green for 2025 Tree Survival Assessment in Chikwawa

Press Corporation Plc has taken a significant step toward strengthening the long-term impact of its Press for Nature Initiative by commissioning Sustain Green to conduct a comprehensive Trees Assessment across Chikwawa District. The assignment, completed in February 2025, focused on evaluating the survival and performance of 20,000 trees planted across villages and schools under the initiative.

The large-scale planting effort covered Njereza, Liwonde, and Utumbe villages, as well as multiple education institutions including Chikhwawa Primary and Secondary Schools, Dyeratu Primary School, Chilongoma Primary, Ngabu Secondary School, Namalindi Primary, Mikolongo Primary, Dzumela Secondary, Bwabwali Secondary, and Chilongoma at Ngabu Secondary School.

Strengthening Environmental Accountability

The objective of the Trees Assessment was to provide Press Corporation Plc with accurate, field-based insights into the health, survival rate, and challenges surrounding the planted trees. Sustain Green’s team conducted extensive field visits, interacted with leaders and residents, and used structured surveys and visual inspections to determine performance across all planting sites.

The assessment provided crucial information on:

  • Survival rates across villages and schools
  • Environmental factors affecting tree growth
  • Community engagement levels
  • Maintenance challenges such as watering, grazing, and vandalism
  • Variation in performance across locations

These findings will help Press Corporation Plc refine its strategies and ensure sustainable growth of the trees planted under the initiative.

Sustain Green’s Role in the Project

In executing the assignment, Sustain Green carried out a wide range of responsibilities designed to capture accurate, actionable insights:

    • Survival rate verification at all planting sites
    • Community consultations with teachers, leaders, and local residents
    • Identification of challenges hindering tree growth
    • Assessment of community support systems for tree care
    • Development of performance-based award strategies to motivate better care
    • Recommendations for resource mobilization in high-potential communities
    • Comprehensive documentation and report writing for Press Corporation Plc

The final report submitted to Press Corporation Plc included detailed findings, statistical summaries, community challenges, strengths, and actionable recommendations to enhance future reforestation efforts.

Building Motivation and Community Ownership

One of the key innovations proposed by Sustain Green was the introduction of an Award and Recognition Structure aimed at motivating communities and schools that demonstrate exceptional care for the trees. This approach promotes healthy competition and encourages long-term maintenance, which is critical for tree survival in climate-challenged districts like Chikwawa.

Additionally, the assessment highlighted communities showing strong potential for high survival rates, recommending targeted support such as watering resources, community monitoring teams, and environmental education.

A Step Toward Sustainable Reforestation

The Trees Assessment marks a major milestone in Press Corporation’s commitment to environmental stewardship and accountability. By investing not only in planting but also in post-planting monitoring, the company sets a powerful example for responsible corporate sustainability in Malawi.

The findings will inform future activities under the Press for Nature Initiative, ensuring that planted trees thrive, ecosystems recover, and communities become more climate-resilient.
